Children & Young People

Hypnotherapy is a fantastic approach to use with children / young people.  It taps into their vivid imaginations and is fun and often highly effective.

How does it work with children?

I use a variety of techniques including hypnosis, deep relaxation, imagery, metaphors, stories and other skills and strategies drawn from Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP). The child or young person remains fully in control at all times and actively applies the techniques I teach them both within and between sessions. They learn to relax their body and take control of their mind to create positive changes and help them manage their thoughts, feelings and behaviours. bigstockphoto_Children_On_Sky_709127

What issues can it help with?

  • Raising self-esteem & confidence
  • Dealing with emotions (i.e. grief, anxiety, anger, sadness)
  • Dealing with phobias (i.e. school phobia, speaking in public, fear of animals)
  • Improving performance (i.e. sports, concentration, memory, exams)
  • Habit breaking (i.e. nail biting, thumb sucking, bed wetting/soiling)
  • Sleeping difficulties
  • Tics and twitches
  • Speech difficulties
  • And many more….

Please contact me for further information if your child’s difficulty is not listed above.

Which children is it suitable for?

Children or young people aged 5 years or over who have a desire to change something about their thoughts, feelings or behaviour. I can not make any child or young person do something they do not want to do. They need to be willing to cooperate with me and willing to practice the techniques regularly between sessions if asked to do so. Parents/carers need to be supportive of the process and their child.

 What does it involve?

The number of sessions required depends on the child or young person as well as the nature of the issue. It is usually between 2 – 6 sessions. Each session lasts between 30 – 60 minutes. I am happy for a parent or other adult to sit in the room during the session if the child or young person is comfortable with this.
